STAR:

STAR
2006 - April 2007

ECAH Animals took in Star and her four 2-week old kittens (pictured below) from Quincy. Star tested strong positive for feline leukemia and passed away soon as the stress of nursing and having the feline leukemia virus proved to be too much. The kittens were bottlefed during the night and the staff at paws & claws during the day. The odds were against them, since most commonly a feline leukemia positive mother will pass the virus on to her kittens through the milk. There were some rough times, and one of the kittens almost died a few times and had to be revived.

The critical time came when the kittens were 8 weeks old and could be tested for feline leukemia. Would they be positive like their mother, and face a short future? A miracle happened, and all four kittens tested negative. It is very likely that they did have the virus, but were able to beat it due to the excellent care received. All four kittens, Tucker, Velvet, Smudges and Peepers have now been adopted to wonderful homes.

We know that Star is watching her babies from the rainbow bridge and is smiling at their good luck.
